This event commemorates the event of atomic bombs being dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasacki and calls for the abolition of nuclear weapons. This event is especially significant because the Bush administration has indicated a willingness to use nuclear weapons, even on a first strike basis. Lantern making, family activities, world music and dance, food will begin at 5:30pm. Commemorative program, speakers, music starting at 7:30 pm. The lanterns will be floated at dusk (8:30pm) in the river according to Japanese tradition.
